Care at home

Do you provide health checks for both mum and baby?

Yes. Home visits can include baby health checks and wellbeing, and mum health checks, which also cover your emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Can you help with feeding concerns?

Yes. Feeding support and guidance is one of the main areas the collective supports families with. The services page gives examples of what feeding support can involve.

Can you support parents with emotional or mental health concerns?

Emotional wellbeing and mental health support are part of the mum health checks. When you need more help than a home visit can give, your midwife can refer you and help coordinate your care.

What else can a midwife help with at home?

Along with health checks and feeding, visits can include:

  • Parenting support and practical strategies
  • Education and reassurance for new parents
  • Referrals and care coordination when required

Medicare and fees

Am I eligible for a Medicare rebate?

Eligible families may access Medicare rebates for home visits provided until their baby is 7 weeks of age. Your midwife can tell you whether you qualify.

How much will I need to pay out of pocket?

Expect to pay around $17 a visit once Medicare has paid its share, if you are eligible. Visit fees are set by each midwife, so confirm yours when you book. See Medicare rebates and fees.
