Areas of support

What a home visit can include

Each midwife tailors her visits to your family. The examples under each area come from the midwives' own practices, so it is worth asking what a particular midwife's visits include.

  • Parenting support and practical strategies

Practical strategies for the day-to-day of caring for a newborn, and support as you adjust to parenthood.

    • Newborn behaviour and reading your baby's cues (Suzie)
    • Wrapping, nappy changing and bath care (Suzie)
    • Sleeping and settling techniques, and safe sleeping guidelines (Suzie)
  • Feeding support and guidance

Guidance and support with feeding, given in your own home.

    • A feeding assessment (Natalie)
    • Help with feeding techniques (Suzie)
    • Feeding support at each postnatal visit (Rebecca)
  • Baby health checks and wellbeing

Checks on your baby's health and wellbeing during the early weeks.

    • The baby check recorded in the blue book at one to four weeks (Natalie)
    • Baby weight and baby checks (Rebecca)
  • Mum health checks including emotional wellbeing and mental health support

Your own health matters too. Checks include your emotional wellbeing and mental health, not only your physical recovery.

    • A mother check, including healing progress and a mental health check (Natalie)
    • Wound checks and general wellbeing support (Rebecca)
    • Talking through emotional changes and the family unit (Suzie)
  • Education and reassurance for new parents

Information and reassurance for new parents, so you can feel more confident with the questions that come up.

    • Strategies to help you get your own rest and sleep (Suzie)
  • Referrals and care coordination when required

When you need support beyond a home visit, your midwife can refer you on and help coordinate your care.

  • Evidence-based support tailored to your family's needs

Advice that reflects up-to-date evidence, adjusted to suit your family rather than a set script.

Three of the midwives offer education during pregnancy through their own practices:

  • Suzie: childbirth education at home, with sessions tailored to each couple
  • Natalie: in-home antenatal education
  • Rebecca: antenatal classes

Infant massage

Suzie offers infant massage as private or group sessions, covering massage strokes, reading your baby's body language and cues, and using oils safely.
